Iran Reopens Airport as US Talks and Israel Strikes Escalate Tensions
Tehran's International Imam Khomeini Airport has opened its gates to some international airlines that connect it to Istanbul and Muscat. This move follows a diplomatic tour by the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is set to travel to Pakistan, Russia, and Oman. This week saw Iran's Foreign Ministry announcing another development: US diplomats Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were to visit Islamabad next Saturday in order to "listen to the Iranians." This, according to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, came after seeing some "progress" made by the Iranians in their negotiations. Israeli PM Netanyahu has announced new strikes against Lebanon, citing Hezbollah's sabotage of the ceasefire that had been established until now, while US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the broadening of the American maritime blockade of Iranian ports worldwide.
